The Ultimate Guide To Vegan Makeup, 3 Beauty Brands Keeping it Clean

My name is Paija J. I am a celebrity makeup artist and beauty blogger based in Los Angeles ( land of vegan and organic enthusiasts, and clean beauty is all the craze right now. I can admit as a beauty girl whether or not makeup is clean was never my biggest concern. I care about staying power, blendability, formula, and how it photographs. It wasn't until it hit home that I realized I should pay more attention to the ingredients in cosmetics.

Not too long ago, I was sitting at home and noticed that my sister's lips were inflamed ( looked something like a cartoon) and we couldn't figure out why. She took some Benedryl, and it went away. A few weeks later, she did her makeup again, and her lips swelled up so big it was scary. She rushed to the doctor, only to be sent to an allergist and find out that she was allergic to bees wax. After much research, it turns out that most lip products contain bees wax and many women suffer from this issue just like her. After that, I realized that vegan products weren't just about avoiding any products that might be participating in animal cruelty, but also clean ingredients that are available to people who choose to leave a clean lifestyle and for others to look beautiful and healthy.

Now that I am aware of the challenges many people face with lip products, lipstick, lip balm, and lip gloss are products that I intentionally buy vegan whenever I can find brands that produce those types of products. Three of the brands that have helped me become more educated on vegan makeup are Youngblood Cosmetics, BAABS Beauty, and Urban Decay as they focus on making vegan products more available to the masses. Youngblood Cosmetics is a pro line that can be found in most professional makeup supply stores that focus on creating camera-ready makeup. They also have everyday beauty products for everything you need to have a beat face whether brow powder or lipstick they have it all. BAABS Beauty was created by founder Necia Boston who discovered that she was allergic to many of the chemicals ordinarily used in cosmetics. Her circumstances then motivated her to create a line that she and others like her could safely use. Today, she owns a full beauty bar in North Carolina where she offers a full cosmetics line for sale, esthetician services, classes, and full makeovers. BAABS beauty products can also be purchased on their website ( try the liquid lipsticks, the color range is amazing.  Urban Decay needs little to no introduction but they are one of the larger brands that focus on making vegan products. They offer both vegan makeup and tools for the dedicated vegan. Urban Decay can be purchased at Sephora, Ulta, Macy's, and other various outlets.

There are some noticeable differences in the vegan lip products as they have different textures. Most lipsticks contain animal fats, insect wax, and other ingredients that help it to have that creamy or silky texture. Vegan lipstick is not extremely different in look but can vary based on the formula. T Sometimes the application requires that you take your time and do more reinforcing. Reinforcing means helping the product to have more staying power. For example, it helps to apply lip liners with vegan lipsticks as filling in your lips helps the lipstick stay stronger longer ( This should actually be done with all lipsticks and glosses). Consumers feel that vegan brands do not have the range of colors  that other lines have but this because they do their best to use clean ingredients which may mean staying away from certain chemicals or coloring products. In addition to allergies, it is up to use to make sure that we are more concerned with what we put in or on our bodies, especially since we eat most of our lipstick and lipgloss.

Overall, it is comforting to know that these products exist as it helps women like my sister to still be able to feel beautiful without risking their health. Like other industries, advancements have been made in clean beauty to create more colors and formulas for people requiring or desiring organic products. As a makeup artist, having these brands has certainly helped me expand my clientele and serve people who are usually afraid to get their makeup done because of the possible effects.

Thanks for stopping by my powder room,

As always Stay Beat and Blessed
